In our world of fast-paced change where research says the majority of future leadership challenges will require new knowledge and new perspectives, what will make leaders successful regardless of the situation? The answer is the ability for leaders to develop the capacity for maturity, critical thinking and collaboration. These skills allow leaders to solve root causes rather than settle for managing the symptoms of failed systems. The Collaborative Leader Profile is built to measure these competencies and provides a roadmap on how to continue personal development.
What is the Collaborative Leader Profile (CLP)?
The CLP is a 360-degree, web-based feedback tool that assesses four critical leadership competencies that are at the heart of collaboration and self-differentiated leaders. Such leaders are equipped to use differences to make better decisions and find more sustainable solutions while building the same capabilities in those around them. The CLP is based on the book A Leadership Paradox: Influencing Others by Defining Yourself - Revised Edition.
The Benefits of the CLP
Easy to Use. The CLP contains 15 questions where leaders are rated on a continuum with specific and clear behavior anchors at each end. Two open-ended questions provide the flexibility for additional comments to be included.
Easy to Understand. The CLP organizes the information so that comments are on the same page as the question they are associated with. In addition, feedback is presented in a graphical representation making it easy for users to see how their perspectives compare to their raters and the range of ratings for each question.
Normative Comparisons. Leaders taking the CLP can see how they compare to either other leaders in their own organization or to all leaders who have taken the CLP to date. This can help organizations see if development needs are specific to a particular leader or are symptomatic of a broader, system-wide development need.
Automated. The CLP is a web-based tool that automatically generates invitations and reminders to reduce the stress of administration.
What Does the CLP Measure?
Emotional Maturity - the ability to monitor the emotional state of self and others, to regulate oneself in the face of anxiety rather than be reactive and to tolerate high levels of emotional discomfort.
Critical Reflection - the willingness and ability to learn from experience, to uncover and challenge one’s assumptions and the willingness to ask questions rather than simply provide advice.
Systems Thinking - the ability to see the interdependencies between things, to see the bigger picture, to seek root causes rather than symptoms and the ability to change self rather than others.
Facilitative Leadership - the ability and willingness to focus on interpersonal process and the task at the same time, the ability and willingness to teach others and the willingness and ability to allow others to learn from doing without the leader being too close or too far away.
